The goal of this campaign:

By August 2024, ensure that the recommendations of the Housing and Affordability Task Force are accepted, passed and implemented by the City of Calgary, including especially the implementation of base-RCG and elimination of parking minimums.

Become a volunteer today to join this campaign!

Rationale:

Suburban sprawl is a significant driver of climate change in Calgary. The Calgary Climate Strategy recommends new development should be primarily focussed on existing areas. However, legacy zoning means single detached homes are the only legal housing form in much of Calgary.

Single detached housing form limits density and are generally less energy efficient. Recent recommendations from the Affordability and Housing Task Force also meaningfully support Calgary’s Climate Strategy and should be supported, especially the calls for RCG to be the base residential district across Calgary and the elimination of parking minimums.
